IRCC provided a service update in their recent newsletter.  

• Permanent resident card renewal processing times have improved in recent months, down from 194 days in January 2016 to 73 days as of May 30, 2016, with IRCC’s renewed emphasis and commitment to reducing processing times and improving client service.
• Citizenship processing times have dropped to 12 months for new applications. At the same time, older cases continue to be finalized. As of March 31, 2016, the inventory of applications has been reduced by a full 76% since November 2013, from 333,000 to 80,000.
